Ready to resume activities as normal

Recently I  had my 6 week postpartum check up.  Emotionally it was a bittersweet appointment. It was the culmination of a life transforming journey, for both Ben and I. We formed real relationships with all of the midwives.  We trusted them to help us make decisions for our unborn baby, and now we were on our own.  It’s hard to put in words what it feels like to go from a pregnant woman, to a woman that just had a baby to one deemed “ready to resume activities as normal”.  What does that even mean? My new normal is far […]

The Birth Story

This is a post that I have thought about writing so many times.  I have regretted not writing down the birth stories of my other 7 babies.  I thought I would never forget the details of their births, but sadly I have.  The realization came to me when I was pregnant with Atticus and listening to  the podcast: The Birth Hour: hosted by Bryn Huntpalmer.  (If you are a birth junkie like me, check it out!)  I mentally started going over each birth and it hit me that there are so many gaps in my memory. How could I forget […]

Beauty + Love

Ben started a Vlog.  What does that mean? It means that I end up on camera.. A LOT.  Being 37 weeks pregnant isn’t when I feel the most glamorous.  My body loves gaining weight during pregnancy.  My legs get round, my boobs get gigantic, and I waddle!  I am very critical of myself.  I don’t particularly enjoy having photos taken of me, let alone video that shows how awkward it is for me to move.  I prefer to be behind the camera, not in front of it! Today was a really special day.  My oldest son Jon came home from […]

A new Chapter

It’s no secret we have a lot of kids!  9 in total… ages 20-8 years old.  So of course the last thing on our minds was having more, right? RIGHT? After I had my last baby 8 years ago, I was 100% convinced I was never having any more little babes.  As I went on my journey as a single mom, I continued that thought.  The dating world is an interesting place.  You meet all types of people. The topic of children inevitably comes up in conversation at some point Do you have any?(uhh….) Do you want any? (UHH…) I […]

Meet Elijah!

My baby turned 7 last week.  I can hardly believe that this sweet baby is now in First Grade! Elijah Graeme was born on September 22, 2008 in Doha, Qatar.  His birth story is interesting…. (who’s isn’t though?)  He is my 3rd baby born in Qatar, and my 7th child.  My first baby born in Qatar was my 5th child.  She was born at a private hospital and it was not an experience I wanted to repeat.  So when I found out I was pregnant AGAIN I was determined to have a different  experience.  After a lot of thought and […]

Can we Talk about dad’s?

What exactly defines a father?  This question has many answers, and it truly depends on the person.  With our family having so many different people that fill many different roles, we don’t really like labels.  A lot of titles come with a negative connotation… (think Cinderella!)  We want our kids to know that it doesn’t really matter what the “biological”connection is.  What is REALLY important is how you feel about someone… and how they make you feel!  Our kids are fortunate to have so many adults that love them.  Not very long ago I was a single mom with […]

Meet Gabe!

On September 12, 1999 in Weiden, Germany Gabe was born!  This year he turned 16 years old! Gabe has always been very sensitive and loving.  From day 1 he always made his needs known 🙂  One of the things Gabe wanted to accomplish by his 16th birthday is to get a job.  He interviewed with Chateau de Fleur and had a second interview scheduled for the day before his birthday… and guess what? HE GOT HIRED!!  What an exciting way to kick off his 16th birthday weekend! The question still remained…How do you celebrate a boy’s Sweet 16 birthday?  We […]

Jon is home!

Our oldest son Jon spent a couple of months at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri as part of his Marine training. Excitement was in the air in anticipation for his arrival home!  Our kids are very, VERY crafty.  At any given time in our house, there are colored pencils, glue guns, scissors and tiny pieces of paper littering the tables and floor space… so naturally they decided to make welcome home signs to bring to the airport. Evette making signs for Jon   We also thought it was a great time to ask the kids some questions about their thoughts and feelings leading […]

Meet our Tribe!

Hello! Welcome to Our Tribe Life! Our journey began December 2013…. and hasn’t slowed down since.  Our family has a lot of unique elements, as do most families… So instead of trying to define our relationships by the typical labels, we have decided to just teach our kids that family is who you love.  This has relieved a lot of pressure… the kids (all 9 of them!) are incredibly lucky to have many people who love them.  So… Meet our tribe members:     Jon graduated from High School last year, and after much thought and consideration he joined the […]
